Whenever I try a recipe in Chicken, the first though that comes to mind is if this can be made in any other meat? Mainly because majority of my family prefers beef or lamb over chicken.
So when it was time to try and perfect the greek gyros recipe, I wanted to create recipes for both chicken and beef so people will have options of the protein of their choice and not a lot of choice in excuse of why they hadn't tried the recipe yet.. Yes! I said it!
In a bowl, combine ground beef, onion, garlic, olive oil, oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
The mixture can be marinated for 2 hours, but as we are using mince it can be cooked right away. Use good quality and fresh beef mince for ultimate results.
Cook the Beef
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Shape the beef mixture into patties or crumble it into the pan.
Cook until browned and cooked through, about 6-8 minutes, stirring occasionally. If you want to grill the mince simply form them into patties or put the mix onto skewers for easy grilling.
Assemble the Gyros
Warm the pita bread, then layer the cooked beef, sliced tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, and feta cheese if desired. Top with tzatziki sauce before serving.
