What's Happening at SaveCo?

SaveCo has always strived to be mindful of its corporate social responsibility, whether through environmentally-friendly initiatives such as reducing food wastage and supporting charitable causes, community projects and events.

Community Support

Carers’ Resource

Carers’ Resource, a charity based in Bradford, will be holding events at SaveCo during Ramadan, to raise awareness of unpaid caring, and raise funds.

The charity provides emotional and practical support to people who are looking after a friend, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise, because of frailty, illness, addiction or disability.

The promotional events will take place inside SaveCo Cash & Carry from 11am to 4pm on Saturday March 18th and Friday March 24th.

Many unpaid carers might be looking after a partner with health issues, a child with additional needs, or an elderly, frail parent, but don’t recognise themselves as ‘carers’ and don’t know that there is support available for them.

My Healthy Mind

Over the past few months SaveCo have teamed up with health and well being coach and consultant Ashfaq Ahmed from MyHealthyMind to deliver mental health awareness sessions.

These are mental health awareness sessions which equip senior leaders in organisations to spot signs of mental ill health at an early stage and support staff in getting the support they need. It also equips SLT with knowledge to have the confidence to deal with issues around mental health that may arise in the workplace.

MyHealthyMind’s mission is to create a support-model based around the needs of diverse communities, thus reducing stigma associated with mental health in diverse communities.

MyHealthyMind has been set up to assist diverse communities in accessing the support they require with mental health challenges that they may face individually, as a family and as a community.

MyHealthyMind’s primary goal is around early intervention and ensuring all members of diverse communities can access support early and be able to live a healthy and balanced life, irrespective of whatever mental health challenges they may face or live with.

Creating Smiles Gifts Initiative

I am grateful to Saveco Cash & Carry for their kind on-going support in which for a number of years now they have & continue to sponsor the 5 times a year 'Creating Smiles Gifts Initiative' which has covered Airedale Hospital & Bradford Royal Informary Childrens Wards.

These gifts have been donated to poorly children irrespective of faith or ethnicity so that they get a bit of happiness & joy since we know being in hospital away from family can be very lonely & upsetting. To date 36 toy gift giving visits have been made to the aforementioned childrens wards in the last 11 years. Saveco Cash & Carry have kindly donated thousands of pounds worth of brand new gifts ranging from 0 to 17 years - a mixture of toys, play sets, games, sports equipment & so forth.

I am grateful to Haji Shiraz Ahmed & Haji Fairaz Ahmed (Managing Directors of Saveco Cash & Carry) who continue to support me in this noble initiative & without whose support this would not be possible. They are responsible for bringing smiles to hundreds of children over the years & their continued support is lifting the spirits & demonstrating as a hugely successful Bradford-based business they profoundly care about children & are always keen to give back to society.

Nazim Ali (Co-ordinator, Creating Smiles Gifts Initiative)
