Basmati Rice is a staple in most asian household.
Its used for a variety of dishes such as Biryani, Pulao, Kheer etc.
Here is a quick guide to making the perfect fluffy rice:
Steps:
1- Take 1 cup of Salaam Basmati Rice and put it in a container.
2- Wash the rice by filling the container with water, and swishing around with your hands. Drain the water and repeat washing until the water runs clear.
3- Add the washed rice (1 cup), and water (1 1/2 cups) to a pot with salt to taste and a couple of teaspoons of oil / ghee or butter.
4- Cook on high until it starts to boil.
5- Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and cook covered until all the water evaporates - about 10 minutes.
6- Once all the water has evaporated, simmer on low for 5-7 minutes.
7- Turn off the heat and let it rest. Do NOT open the lid as it will disturb the steam.
8- After it has rested, fluff with a fork and enjoy with a curry of your choice!
Pro Tip: Soak the washed rice in some water for about 20 minutes before cooking for the best fluffy long grain basmati rice!
