Celebrating Traditions, Crafting Memories: Introducing Our Week of Festive Feasting!

We at SaveCo are kicking off this holiday season in style.

The holiday season is truly the best and for all the right reasons. You’ve got your food cooking, your family gathering, everyone is coming home for the holidays, fam-jam all stuffed in the cosy living room watching old holiday movies, popcorn and candy doing rounds, with an endless supply of hot chocolate on the stovetop.

Every family has their traditions when it comes to how they celebrate holidays. With the traditions, come stories. All. of. The. stories. And we live for the stories!!

So, to kick start the festivities, we’re taking you on a journey fuelled by the stories from our team.

We’re starting with a story that is close to my heart. So my birthday falls around the holidays in December, and that is probably the only thing I dislike about December because it means that I am not the only important celebration. Anyway, back in 2005, I was staying with some family friends for the school holidays and was almost 100% sure that there would be no birthday party or celebration. However, what I didn’t know was that there was a party being planned. A grand one at that.

So the day rolled around and I was all like a typical 15-year-old, trying to appear cool and not be bothered, but deep down I wanted the attention.

Late afternoon, I was sent outside to play with my friends to see if it would cheer me up, and like any typical surprise party, I was brought back inside by my friends to a room full of family and friends, gathered around a table. And there sat my birthday cake. Finally, I was the reason for the celebration, I couldn’t contain it and burst into laughter followed by inconsolable tears.

That was the moment my mum held me close and whispered in my ear “Because you’re so precious, everyone is happy around your birthday. Everybody celebrates your birthday month.” This kept me walking all proud and smug thinking everyone was happy around the holidays not because of the actual holidays but because it was my birthday. Heehee!

It has become a tradition now for everyone in my family to refer to December as my birthday. Not a date, but the whole month.

Although we’d always have a sort of grand celebration on my birthday, we’d have an even bigger celebration for the holidays. And like any family, our celebrations revolved around food. A massive feast for the holidays. Sometimes it would span over a couple of days.

My gran would plan the menu and everyone would come together to help prepare it.

Now, I get to plan the menu, cue my work in the food industry (wink)!

This year, I have planned the Christmas dinner menu for 2023, with a mix of traditional and non-traditional recipes, and I cannot wait for you to try them!
